How Can We Help You?

Everything you need to get started, fix issues, and get the most out of FlashNote.

Up & Running in Under 2 Minutes

FlashNote works differently from normal apps — here's how to get started.

01

Download & Install from the Mac App Store

Search for FlashNote on the Mac App Store or use the direct link. Click Get to install. FlashNote requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later.

02

Launch the App — No Dock Icon by Design

Double-click FlashNote in your Applications folder to launch it. You won't see a Dock icon — this is intentional. FlashNote is a menubar app and lives at the top of your screen.

Look for the lightning-bolt note icon in the top-right area of your macOS menu bar.
03

Open FlashNote

Click the icon in your menu bar, or press the global shortcut ⌥ Space (Option + Space) from any app — even if FlashNote isn't in front. The note popover appears instantly.

04

Create Your First Note

Press ⌘ N or click the + button to open a blank note. Start typing — FlashNote auto-saves every keystroke. Press ⌘ P to toggle the live Markdown preview.

05

Enable iCloud Sync (Optional)

Make sure you're signed into iCloud in System Settings. FlashNote detects this automatically and begins syncing your notes to your other Apple devices within seconds. No configuration needed.

Sync is optional — FlashNote works perfectly offline with all notes stored locally.
06

Set Your Global Hotkey

The default global shortcut is ⌥ Space. To change it, open Settings with ⌘ , → General → Global Shortcut, then press your preferred key combination.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most common things people ask about FlashNote.

I can't find FlashNote after installing it — where is it?
FlashNote has no Dock icon by design. After launching it from Applications, look for the icon in your macOS menu bar (top-right area of your screen). Click it to open the note popover.
How do I make FlashNote launch automatically at login?
Open Settings with ⌘ , → General → enable Launch at Login. FlashNote will then be available in your menu bar every time you start your Mac.
My notes aren't syncing to my other devices — what do I do?
Check these in order: 1) Ensure you're signed into the same Apple ID on both devices. 2) Go to System Settings → Apple ID → iCloud and confirm iCloud Drive is enabled. 3) Open FlashNote Settings → Sync → tap Sync Now. Allow up to 60 seconds.
Does FlashNote work without an internet connection?
Yes — completely. All reads and writes go to your local device first. CloudKit sync runs in the background when you're online. You'll never be blocked from editing offline.
I bought FlashNote Pro on my old Mac. How do I restore it?
Open FlashNote Settings with ⌘ , → About tab → tap Restore Purchase. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID used for the original purchase. It's instant.
What Markdown features does FlashNote support?
FlashNote supports headings (H1–H6), bold, italic, inline code, fenced code blocks with syntax highlighting, task lists, blockquotes, ordered/unordered lists, horizontal rules, and open links.
Can I change the ⌥Space global shortcut to something else?
Yes. Settings (⌘ ,) → General → Global Shortcut → click the recorder field and press your preferred shortcut. Any modifier combination works.
How do I export all my notes?
This is a FlashNote Pro feature. With Pro, press ⌘ E to export the current note, or go to Settings → Export to download all notes as individual .md files or a single .zip archive.
Can I use FlashNote without iCloud at all?
Absolutely. If you're not signed into iCloud or turn sync off in Settings → Sync, FlashNote runs entirely offline. Notes are stored locally on your Mac using SwiftData (SQLite).
What's the difference between Archive and Delete?
Archive (Pro) hides notes from the main list but keeps them fully searchable and recoverable. Delete permanently removes a note — you have a 5-second undo window immediately after deleting.

Common Issues, Fixed Fast

Step-by-step solutions for the most reported problems.

FlashNote icon not visible in menu bar

  1. Open Finder → Applications and double-click FlashNote to ensure it's running.
  2. If the menu bar is crowded, hold ⌘ and drag other icons to make space — the FlashNote icon may be hidden.
  3. On Macs with a notch (MacBook Pro 14"/16"), the notch can cover icons. Try reducing other menu bar apps.
  4. Check Activity Monitor to confirm FlashNote is running as a process.
  5. If still not visible, quit and relaunch FlashNote from Finder.

Notes not syncing between devices

  1. Confirm both devices are signed into the same Apple ID in System Settings → Apple ID.
  2. On both devices, go to System Settings → Apple ID → iCloud and ensure iCloud Drive is toggled on.
  3. Open FlashNote Settings (⌘,) → Sync and check the iCloud account status. If it shows "Not signed in", sign into iCloud first.
  4. Tap Sync Now in Settings → Sync and wait up to 60 seconds.
  5. Check your internet connection — CloudKit requires an active connection to push/pull changes.
  6. Restart FlashNote on both devices. CloudKit reconnects automatically on launch.

Global shortcut ⌥Space not working

  1. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility and ensure FlashNote is listed and checked. This permission is required for global hotkeys.
  2. If FlashNote is not listed, click the + button and add it from Applications.
  3. Check whether another app is using the same shortcut. Try changing the FlashNote shortcut in Settings (⌘,) → General → Global Shortcut.
  4. Quit and relaunch FlashNote after granting Accessibility permission.

FlashNote Pro not restored after reinstall

  1. Open Settings (⌘,) → About and tap Restore Purchase.
  2. Ensure you are signed into the same Apple ID used when you originally purchased Pro.
  3. Check that you have an active internet connection — StoreKit contacts Apple's servers to verify the purchase.
  4. If restore fails, sign out of the App Store (System Settings → Apple ID → Media & Purchases → Sign Out) and sign back in, then try Restore again.

App crashes on launch

  1. Ensure you are running macOS 14 Sonoma or later — FlashNote requires it.
  2. Quit FlashNote completely, then relaunch from Finder → Applications.
  3. If the crash repeats, open Console.app, search "FlashNote", and copy the crash log. Email it to flashnote-support@ifusiontech.in — this helps us fix it quickly.
  4. As a last resort, delete the app and reinstall from the Mac App Store. Your notes are safe — they're stored in iCloud and will resync automatically.
